Question: My Memory Card Needs Formatting, Format It
or Not?
Case1: My memory card (8GB micro SD
card) says that it needs formatting in my Blackberry mobile phone. I can neither
listen to music on my Blackberry, nor watching movie. Since all the files are
stored to the memory card, it keeps saying memory card needs to be formatted whenever
I want to access any data inside the card. Should I format the card so that I can
access the data inside? Or is there any other method that I can use to resolve
the memory card not formatted error?
Case2: I only have one memory card,
so I often use this memory card in both my Sony digital camera and smartphone. Usually,
I insert the memory card into my smartphone, so I can download some movies and
music. When I want to use my camera, I will insert the memory card into the
camera and use it to take some pictures. However, I met some problem with my memory
card just now. As usual, I turned off my smartphone and took out the memory
card. Then I inserted the card to my digital camera. When I switched on the
camera, I got an error screen which says: memory card needs to be formatted. What is wrong with it? I have never encountered
such a problem.
Solution: Recover Data from Memory Card
Format the memory card or not? It depends on if you want to restore data inside
the card. Suppose data inside the memory card is very important to you, so you
can download memory card recovery software
to recover data. When a memory card says needs to be formatted, it can
still be detected if you connect it to a computer. Therefore, you only need to
plug the memory card to a computer and free download the recovery software. Then
you can use the software to scan and locate all the files in the memory card. The
software will allow you to preview the found files before you can restore them,
so that you can make sure if those files are the lost data you want to restore.
When recovering and saving the files, you are not allowed to save them to the
original memory card.

Fixing memory card not formatted error, you
can format the memory card in digital camera, mobile phone or computer. If it
is convenient, it is recommended to format the card by connecting it to your
computer. Since the causes for memory card requires formatting error are quite different,
it is not always helpful to fix the error by formatting. Therefore, some users
may find it is impossible to format the card though it asks to be formatted. In
this case, it is very necessary to make clear the reasons for the error. For
example, if the memory card is attacked by virus, you had better run anti-virus
software to kill virus first. If the memory card has bad sectors, you had
better fix the errors by running windows built-in repair tool.
